When registering items document owners can select an optional classification which can add flexibility when defining Gateway policies. Classifications are based around the level of document sensitivity and can be configured with default definitions. Your IGS supplies default values but depending on if the classification has been modified for your organisation, these definitions might vary.

The item classification is used when responding to Gateway queries. Your IGS reports the highest classification of all the matching items. It also returns the number of matching items and matching fingerprints at each level.

Update item classification?
From the Home page, click Registry.
Select the check box for the item you want to change and click 
on the Item Manager tool bar.
The Edit Item details dialog is displayed.
A classification is an IG Server term that comprises an internal numerical level associated with a configurable description that together indicates the level of document sensitivity. If the classification feature is enabled, a classification has to be applied to all registered items. Default classification descriptions include 'Top Secret', 'Confidential', and 'Unclassified'.
